There's obviously more than one way to go about gaining muscle and losing fat, but it just comes down to what feels best for you. IF made me cranky so I stopped, but if you like it, do it! IF might make it easier for you to cut calories, but it doesn't actually make a difference if you eat several meals throughout the day or eat during your feeding window. I think cutting should also be a slow process in order to maintain the muscle that you do have. I see a lot of people eat whatever they want to and justify it with the fact that they're also putting on some muscle, but if they did a serious cut, they'd probably have the same amount of muscle gain as someone who just ate a little bit over their TDEE. Muscle gain is a slow process, especially for us, so I think an optimal bulk would be a very slow and cautious one. If you want to gain mostly muscle with little fat, you have to be careful to not overeat regularly - by overeat, I mean eat more than a couple hundred over maintenance. I was barely eating over my maintenance calorie level, maybe 100-200 calories per day on average. In my personal experience with bulking, I gained 10 lbs of mostly muscle in about 10-11 months of eating very healthy and lifting hard at least 5 times per week. I've been downvoted before for saying this, but if you eat even a few hundred calories over your TDEE, you're probably going to gain a lot more fat than muscle. The majority of women will only gain approximately 1 pound of muscle in a month if she's 'doing everything right.' What community and/or resources would you recommend women who are interested in making dramatic muscle gains refer to? There's so much out on the web nowadays and I have no idea whom to trust at times. While cutting, how should women work out? Should they continue the same kind of exercise routine that they were doing while bulking? Would you recommend going on some kind of intermittent fasting regimen during a cut phase, to accelerate results? If anyone has tried this, what types of IF regimens did you try? Is barbell training essential for dramatic muscle gains, or is there another type of training that approximates the level of results achieved through barbells?
